  • Water (as needed)

  • Oil (for frying)

  • For the Filling:

  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder

  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala

  • Salt, to taste

  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)

  • For the Tamarind Water:

  • 2 cups water

  • 1 teaspoon roasted cumin powder

  • 1-2 green chilies, finely chopped

  • 1 tablespoon jaggery (or sugar)

  • Salt, to taste

  • Chaat masala, to taste

Directions
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine semolina, all-purpose flour, and baking soda. Gradually add water to form a smooth and stiff dough. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 20 minutes.

  2. In another bowl, mix the mashed potatoes, chopped onions, cumin powder, chaat masala, and salt. Set aside.

  3. For the tamarind water, in a separate bowl, combine tamarind pulp with water. Stir in roasted cumin powder, chopped green chilies, jaggery, salt, and chaat masala. Adjust the spice and sweetness to your liking. Chill in the refrigerator.

  4. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Divide the dough into small balls and roll each ball into thin circles.

  5. Carefully drop the puris into the hot oil, frying them until they puff up and turn golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  6. To serve, make a small hole in the top of each puri, fill it with the potato mixture, and serve immediately with chilled tamarind water.

The Poisson Distribution Pani Puri takes a beloved street food and elevates it with a unique twist that reflects the precision and creativity of culinary arts. The inspiration behind this dish lies in the marriage of traditional flavors with an innovative approach, much like the mathematical concept it derives its name from. The Poisson distribution is all about randomness and probability, which we translate into a medley of bold flavors and a surprise element in every bite.

“In the world of cooking, just like in math, the right combination can lead to delightful outcomes. This recipe embodies that philosophy, where each ingredient plays its part in creating a perfect balance.”

What makes this pani puri different from the usual versions is the incorporation of roasted cumin and jaggery in the tamarind water, which adds a depth of flavor that contrasts beautifully with the spiced filling. The use of semolina gives the puris a distinct crunch, ensuring that each bite remains satisfying.

This recipe is not just about taste; it’s about the experience of eating. The playful act of filling the puris right before serving adds an element of fun, making it a perfect dish for gatherings or parties. The Poisson Distribution Pani Puri is sure to leave your guests guessing and craving more!
